Converse has teamed up with the Hudson’s Bay Company for Fall 2013 to create some seriously stunning editions of their Jack Purcell sneaker. In addition to this being the first time the iconic “Five Point’ blanket has been used on a sneaker, Jack Purcell himself, was Canadian which makes this a uniquely Canadian collaboration. Mr. Purcell was born in Guelph, Ontario in 1903 and was a Canadian world and national badminton player in the 1930’s. In 1955, he was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and of course in 1935 he designed his own badminton shoe – The Jack Purcell that included heavy rubber support around the ankles and toes and allowed him to move more quickly on the court, it also allowed young North Americans to move more quickly on the dance floor and become a favorite among stylish rebels, including the ultimate icon, James Dean. The limited edition Jack Purcell’s will be available exclusively at Hudson’s Bay stores for $120-140 starting September 1st or online.
