Shelby America Inc. will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Cobra 289 FIA this year by producing 50 beautiful special editions for their ravenous fanbase. “The 289 FIA Shelby Cobras were among the most important cars in American racing history,” said John Luft, president of Shelby America. “Combining a robust, powerful American engine with a lightweight chassis was sheer brilliance. Shelby’s formula still resonates today and is followed by automakers worldwide.”
Features of the car include 15″ alloy powder-coated wheels, a black leather interior and special-edition billet badges all tied together with a Viking Blue/Arctic White paintjob that we absolutely love. “Our CSX7000 cars incorporate safety and performance improvements, without sacrificing driving excitement or originality,” said Vince LaViolette, senior designer and head of R&D at Shelby American. “With a small block V8 pushing only 2,100 lbs., it’s the lightest Cobra ever built with an incredible power-to-weight ratio.” The car will be available in a choice of fiberglass ($95,000 USD) or aluminum ($160,000) bodies.
