Founded in 1875 in Brockton, MA, Stacy Adams footwear came into being when William H. Stacy and Henry L. Adams decided to get to work creating high-quality fashions for the men of the era. Needless to say, over 150 years styles have changed, and Stacy Adams has managed to constantly have their pulse on these shifting trends. When artists as diverse as Tom Waits and Snoop Dogg reference your brand in their music, you can rest assured you’re doing something right. With almost 150 years of experience creating quality footwear, we were excited to get our hands on a pair of their Armstrong shoes from their new ‘A’ line of footwear to see exactly what the hype is about.
Stacy Adams‘ Armstrong in navy suede was the clear choice for us. It’s the perfect blend of old-world style combined with modern materials and construction. The deep navy of the suede upper features classic brogue detailing on the vamp and heel, giving the shoe a dynamic appearance despite its tonal color palette. The suede is supple, soft, and the brogue detailing is just prevalent enough to set the shoe apart without taking away from the quality of the materials or becoming a distraction.
Another element that really attracted us to this shoe is the use of an EVA sole, which (if we may be so bold) is a better execution of the concept made famous by the Cole Haan LunarGrand line. The Armstrong‘s EVA sole reduces the weight of the shoe substantially when compared to more traditional materials, but what appealed to us most was the fact that it doesn’t overpower the shoes classic looks. It’s hard to find a shoe that elegantly blends fashion and function, and the Armstrong definitely is a shoe that does exactly that very well.
Out of the box we were immediately impressed with the quality of the Stacy Adams Armstrong‘s. The suede is very high quality and the brogue detailing is cut with precision and used with restraint. The shoes came with two pairs of laces, but we opted for the lighter grey laces as opposed to the more tonal blue pair that were included to give the shoe a bit more dynamic. After wearing the shoes for a long day of meetings we were impressed not only by the number of compliments we received about them, but also how comfortable they were. More traditional leather-soled shoes of this style are nice, but it’s hard to beat the comfort of the EVA sole: in the long run we’re sure it will also prove to be zero-maintenance, which is a huge plus.
All in all Stacy Adams has found some serious fans with the team here at EG. They have the kind of heritage and history that supports a huge range of classic silhouettes, but most importantly they don’t ignore modern additions that can take a shoe to the next level. You can check out the Armstrong in a variety of colors and materials here, or just head over to Stacy Adams to find your own perfect fit.
